| Today it's difficult to conceive our lives without PCs. We apply them in business and for amusement. It will guarantee the security of these data in case of problems with the HD. There are a few types of recording media. The most popular amidst them are magnetic tapes, HD, compact and digital video discs and flash memory disks. All these media have their own pluses and minuses. It's up to you to take a decision what information storage medium to select to store your backup information. Magnetic tape used to be the most widespread medium for info storage. It represents an access medium, so the access time is rather slower than if you apply hard disk. But at the same time continuous reading and writing are as a rule considerably faster. With the invention of new recording mediums magnetic tapes are becoming obsolete, but they are still in use in special situations, since they are among the most reliable data media. Another type of information storage media is optical disk backup system, commonly called compact discs and digital versatile disks. This system is efficient and easy in use. An essential advantage of optical discs is that information can be stored to and read from them practically on any machine with a typical CD-ROM and DVD-ROM drive. Flash memory disk backup system, including USB drives, Memory Stick and SmartMedia and others, constitutes the next step of information storage development. These gadgets are portable, easy to use and able to store a great amount of information. All the contemporary PCs possess an opportunity to restore information from these disks. Their only disadvantage is high price comparing to floppy and optical disks. But at the same time flash memory disk backup system is the most reliable and convenient information storage medium. |
