| Okay, here’s what to do for a water damaged iPhone or water damaged iPod http://www.repairzoom.com/iPhone-water-damage-repair Initially, do not attempt to turn on a water damaged iPhone. That means, do not touch any buttons. Really, do not turn on your water damaged iPhone -- really don’t try it. Please Please Please -- Do not turn on your iPhone. This is so hard to resist, we know, but your iPhones logic board will fry immediately if you attempt to turn it on while wet inside. Remove the SIM card from your iPhone Now shake your iPhone vigorously to shake out any excess water. Shake the iPhone again (do a little anti-water dance and say a little prayer too?) Place your iPhone in a bag of dry rice and close the bag It is very important you write the exact date your iPhone got wet on the bag We recommend leaving the iPhone in the dry rice bag for a minimum of 5 to 7 days (even 9 days if your phone was fully submerged in water). Take the iPhone out of the rice and use the blow dryer on low heat again for an additional 15 minutes. Shake it to see if water is still coming out of your iPhone, then, put it back in the bag of rice for 1 more day. AFTER you have followed all of the steps above with your -- FIRST, try connecting your iPhone to a wall charger. If you don't see the charge light come on within 5 minutes - DO NOT TRY TURNING ON YOUR iPhone. Put it back in the rice bag for 2 more days, then try plugging in again. If you DO see a charging symbol on your iPhone screen - a charge is likely happening. This is a good sign. Wait until your iPhone automatically turns on (part of the charging process) - or manually try turning it on. If you hear a pop, snap, or see a flash on the screen... it means there was probably still moisture in the phone and the logic board has just fried in your hands. : ( AGAIN, GOOD LUCK WITH THESE TIPS. More suggestions and options for iPhone and iPod water damage: If your phone is still in a 1 year or 2 year warranty, go to the Apple Store or call AppleCare. You may be able to get it replaced for as low as $199. Apple has a new and more lenient policy towards water damage (as of early 2011). [More detail on this: Previously, Apple would not replace water damaged iPhone and considered your warranty voided. There are 4 sensors inside your phone that turn pink when water damage happens. Previously a pink sensor meant your warranty was always voided. Recently, however, Apple changed its policy on water damage and you may be able to replace an in-warranty iPhone for a refurbished phone for a lower cost.] It's $199 for a refurbished phone and the new warranty will only be 90 days, but this is a big savings off a completely new phone and we applaud Apple for yet another customer-friendly move. Water damaged iPhones are usually not salvageable... but the rice-bag procedure can work! If you have the time, try it. The whole point of putting it in rice is to help it dry and remove the water from inside the damaged iPhone or iPod. No Heat! RepairZoom does NOT recommend using ANY type of heat on a wet iPhone. This means no hair-dryers (it can spread the moisture) - no ovens - no microwaves (people actually try this). We realize that for many people, being without your iPhone for up to 7 days is just not feasible. In this case, we recommend sending your iPhone to RepairZoom while it’s still wet or moist (sorry, we said moist). If your phone is permanently fried, we may be able to take your (wet) phone as a trade-in toward a beautiful “refreshed” iPhone from our inventory. We're gonna be honest, you won't get much more than a $50 credit, but at least it's something! If you bought your iPhone from Best Buy, or used a credit card that offers protection, you may be able to get some of your money back or get the phone replaced for free.
