Taking Opiate Painkillers Can Lead To Drug Detox And Treatment |

| Everyone that has had a dental procedure that was going to leave them with some pain for a day or two has probably been given an opiate painkiller, such as Vicodin. Usually the dentist will give a patient less than 20 of these tablets. This isn’t enough to become physically addicted, but it doesn’t take too many more repeated days of use before one finds that they can no longer stop. About ten percent of these people will spend the next year or more battling a physical addiction and may ultimately need medical detox for their withdrawal symptoms and some will even need short and long term alcohol and drug rehab or treatment. Americans, on the whole, are not big about being able to withstand discomfort of any types. We like to have life as easy as possible. Not that this is wrong, but other populations have a more realistic view of what one can expect from the world and are not caved in by the pain from having a tooth extracted. The longer that a person runs from the reality of pain, the larger the pain appears in the mind of the patient. If doctors would just ask their patients to confront their pain, they would find that it will decrease in intensity much sooner and the wound will also heal faster. Pain is a communication systems that the body responds to by giving the painful area more metabolic assistance. This might include the production of certain cells that are actually healing the area. When the patients is taken off the drug, they begin to be preoccupied with the need for more of these very addicting medications. Patients will even develop imaginary pain and when their doctors won’t refill their prescriptions for their opiates, they go to other doctors that are not aware of the opiate histories and start building evidence that they are in need of pain medication. When you look at how this country is handling the issue of pain management, you have to admit that we have other motives other than the health and well being of our patients. It is evident that profits are driving this system. As was stated in the beginning, what appears to be something quite innocent, but has a sinister motivation, profits, has become a serious problem for our society and for the alcohol and drug rehab field in particular. Many of these people do not have medical insurance and when they realize that they need drug treatment or drug detox, they have usually spent all of their funds on getting their medications.
