| Call it whimsical, but I consider my birth in Congo as fate – one that allowed me to realize early on, what I'm meant to do in life. I grew up in Goma, the center of trade and social activities in Congo's eastern region. This also allowed me to learn and enjoy more of other cultures as our home was situated just 500 meters away from the borders of Uganda and 10 kilometers away from Rwanda. Finding out about the exciting similarities and differences between my country and theirs inspired me to learn more about other African cultures and geographies. I was particularly interested in immersing myself with everything that the Great Lakes region of the continent has to offer, which I was sure would be fascinating. And when I went to Kenya to study and later had the opportunity to work as a tour guide for adventure tourists, I was happy to realize I was right. Mere words are simply not enough to describe the magical and wondrous beauty that the region has to offer. There's no place like the Great Lakes on earth, not in Africa or elsewhere. A truly untouched paradise allowing only the few and privileged to witness nature's greatest sense. And I feel blessed that I had the chance to introduce sites such as the Nyirangongo Volcano and the Virunga National Park to visitors. The best work, they say, is the kind that you would still love to do even without being paid and that's how I view my work as a tour operator and guide. In 2004, I founded the Hakuna Matata Tours LMTD, armed with a Finance & Accounting degree from my years in Kenya. Even though we now have offices in Goma, Uganda, and Burundi, I always make it a point to tour my clients personally as much as I can. I want them to feel completely at ease throughout the tour, which was why I had earlier invested in a two-year intensive course in studying English. Communication won't be a problem as I am fluent in English and French, as well as in Swahili, Lingala, and Kinyarwanda. My wife, Desange Bahati, who has a degree in Computer Science, has been supportive all the way of my efforts and just as energetic and passionate as I am of enlightening the world about the many attractions in the Great Lakes.
