| There is such a huge variety of brushes available to use when doing makeup that it is hard to decide, especially if you are new to makeup. The list below gives you the most common makeup brush needed for each particular use. 1. Powder brush – this large makeup brush is perfect for getting rid of excess powder from the face and for applying bronzers and shimmers and other types of powder 2. Blush brush – this is larger than the powder brush and can be angled to apply blusher to the face correctly. It’s highly useful for adding highlighting powder and for cleaning up excess powder from the face 3. Fan brush – looks like a fan spread out, this brush is great for adding blusher to the face where a large area needs to be covered. It gives a lighter touch than a blush brush 4. Concealor brush – a tiny brush which is used to apply concealor to trouble areas requiring precise application such as spots and dark circles under the eyes 5. Eye shadow brush – this is a general use makeup brush to apply eye shadow to the eye socket area and to the eyelids 6. Crease brush – this has a tapered end and is great for applying color to the crease above the eye, as well as for overall blending 7. Liner brush – is ideal for applying liquid eyeliner as it has a very fine point 8. Smudge brush – is great for smudging shadow and liner around the eye to help create a smoky effect 9. Brow brush – a stiff makeup brush which is used to fill in the gaps in eyebrows. It is angled and can also be used to apply eye shadow as a liner around the eyes 10. Lip brush – a small slightly stiff brush which is used to apply lipstick properly to the lips and also help line the lips with color 11. Foundation brush – a large slightly flattened brush which is perfect for applying sheer layers of foundation with and gives an even and steak-free finish Now you know which makeup brush to use, it is also important that you should know what to look for in a makeup brush. Firstly, makeup brushes vary greatly in quality. If you need a professional finish, never buy cheap brushes – they are inferior at applying, blending and picking up products, plus they do not last long. A professional makeup brush will last a lifetime if cared for properly, and if you are a makeup artist, don’t even think of working without a professional set. Brand names such as MAC and Shisiedo do some great brushes which are loved by makeup artists. Secondly, look for a makeup brush made of squirrel hair or sable hair (from horses) or even goat hair as these are the best quality.
